The ACC Value Challenge

With approximately 29,000 members in over 75 countries, the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the largest organization serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations and other private-sector organizations worldwide.
ACC leaders believe that traditional law firm business models can be better aligned with what ACC members really want and need as corporate clients, namely appropriate, value-driven, high-quality legal services that deliver effective solutions for a reasonable cost.
The “ACC Value Challenge” is a nationwide initiative to bring in-house and outside counsel together to promote strategic partnering and use of appropriate fee arrangements, best practices, management tools and other resources to achieve better alignment between the value and cost of legal services provided by law firms to corporate clients.

Driving Success - ACC Value Challenge
Admittedly, the ACC Value Challenge is a huge undertaking.  ACC National recognizes that there are major forces operating across the legal profession perpetuating the status quo.  Desired changes, involving widespread implementation of the processes, tools and metrics in-house and outside counsel need to drive value-based client relationships better outcomes and cost management in providing value-based legal services, will not occur overnight.
Occasional regional ACC Value Challenge events, gathering valuable resources on ACC’s website and one-off introductory programs by ACC Chapters in support of the ACC Value Challenge are certainly important but will not, on their own, sufficient to overhaul how corporate clients and their law firms do business.  Moreover, the desired value-cost realignment cannot be orchestrated by traditional power structures.  There is no overseeing body that can dictate the necessary change in attorney mindset, knowledge and behavior.  In contrast, a genuine grassroots movement led by corporate in-house counsel is needed.  Recognizing this, ACC National encourages ACC members and their law firms to take the first step and schedule individual “Meet-Talk-Act” sessions.
The Power of Ongoing Dialogue and Local Collaborative Efforts
We are pleased to offer ACC Chapters an additional important tool to spur and sustain growth of the grassroots movement needed to drive desired changes in how corporate clients and their outside counsel work together – a resource that used effectively can generate momentum, synergy and other advantages gained through multi-party contributions towards achieving a common goal.
Very simply, we will support at no cost to your ACC Chapter a dedicated online portal for use by your members and invited local outside counsel to promote and facilitate ongoing dialogue and collaborative efforts to advance the ACC Value Challenge.  With this tool, your Chapter can contribute meaningfully on an ongoing basis to this important national campaign.
